Heiloo is a municipality and a village in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The community is part of the cooperation region Kennemerland and is also in the historical region of West Friesland.

Heiloo (From the Dutch: Heilige loo or holy forest) was given its name because Saint Willibrord supposedly performed a miracle there around 690. The village has a townhall from 1926 and a chapel from the 12th century known as the \'Onze lieve vrouwe ter nood\'. In the 1950s and 1960s the population grew quickly as many residents of Amsterdam moved to the area. The village is near the city of Alkmaar where many residents work and attend school.

Railway connections

Heiloo is connected to the Dutch railway network (see hlo on lines 13 and 20), and contains one station, Heiloo, on the connection between Uitgeest and Alkmaar. There used to be a second station. This was between Heiloo and Limmen. This was only in use to bring people to the chapel on Sunday. The name of the station and chapel was \'Onze lieve vrouwe ter nood\' or \'Our Dear Woman to Need\'.
